What You Resist Persists: The Art of Surrendering to What Is

There’s a rhythm to life—an ebb and flow, an inhale and exhale. But so often, we resist that rhythm. We fight against the slow moments, the stillness, the discomfort. We push through exhaustion, ignore the whispers of our body, and try to control what was never ours to control.
But healing doesn’t happen through force. Alignment doesn’t come through resistance. What if, instead of fighting what is, you softened into it?
The Body as a Messenger
Last week, I found myself resisting again. I had been feeling run down, my body asking for rest, yet I tried to push through, to keep up, to do all the things I felt I should be doing. And the more I resisted, the heavier it became.
It wasn’t until I finally surrendered—stopped labeling it as an inconvenience and started seeing it as communication—that something shifted. My body wasn’t betraying me. It was guiding me. It was asking me to return to the rhythm I had been resisting.
And I see this pattern everywhere. Not just in illness, but in emotions, in transitions, in life itself. The things we resist—grief, change, stillness—don’t go away. They only grow stronger, waiting for us to turn toward them with curiosity instead of fear.
Reframing Resistance into Surrender

Surrender isn’t passive. It’s not about giving up—it’s about giving in to the deeper intelligence within you. It’s a sacred agreement to stop fighting what is and instead be with it.
When resistance rises, try this:
Name it neutrally. Instead of saying, “I am sick,” try, “My body is moving through a healing process.” Instead of, “I am anxious,” try, “I am experiencing the energy of uncertainty.” This simple shift reminds you—you are not your emotions. You are not your circumstances. You are the awareness witnessing them.
Soften the body. Notice where you’re holding tension. Drop your shoulders, unclench your jaw, breathe deep into your belly. Even a 1% softening shifts your entire energy.
Ask the deeper question. What is this moment teaching me? What old story is trying to be rewritten? What would happen if I met this experience with love instead of resistance?
Use breath and mantra to realign. One of the simplest ways to return to your natural state of flow is the So Hum meditation.
The So Hum Meditation: Reconnecting to Your True Self
The Sanskrit mantra So Hum means I am that—a powerful reminder that you are already whole, already divine, already in alignment with something greater. This practice invites you to dissolve resistance by anchoring into the breath and remembering your connection to all that is.
Try this:
Find a comfortable seat or lie down. Close your eyes.
Take a deep inhale through the nose, silently repeating So.
Exhale slowly through the nose, silently repeating Hum.
Continue this rhythm, allowing the breath to soften, feeling yourself merge with the present moment.
Each inhale draws in the knowing of your highest self. Each exhale releases resistance, contraction, and doubt. You don’t have to force surrender—it happens naturally when you remember who you are.

The Natural Flow of Emotions: Allowing and Releasing
Did you know that emotions, when left unresisted, only last about 90 seconds? After that, it’s our attachment to them—the stories we create around them—that keep them lingering.
If you’ve been feeling something heavy lately, I invite you to sit with it. Not as an enemy, but as a messenger. Let it rise. Let it move. Let it complete its cycle. And then, when you’re ready, breathe into the knowing that you are not stuck. You are not powerless. You are in motion, always.
Returning to Wholeness
The journey of transformation isn’t about becoming someone new. It’s about returning to the truth of who you’ve always been. And sometimes, that means letting go of resistance and surrendering to the wisdom already within you.
So today, if something feels heavy, ask yourself: What would happen if I stopped fighting this and instead trusted it?
Because remember—you are already whole. Everything you need is already within you.
